What time pre-orders open

8:00pm on Friday, 16 October, Malaysia time. Apple opens pre-orders at the same moment worldwide, 5am in California, so the Malaysian time is also the time in Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines and China (pre-order time in every country). The first buyers get delivery or store pickup on 23 October; later orders get later dates (how delivery dates slip).

Cheaper in Malaysia or Singapore?

Malaysia. Singapore's Apple Store charges S$3,099 for the 256GB model, about RM 9,908 at the 7 October rate, so Malaysia is about RM 409 cheaper. The gap shrinks as storage grows: about RM 369 at 512GB, RM 287 at 1TB and RM 164 at 2TB (Singapore prices).

Singapore's GST refund for tourists does not change that for most Malaysians: it is only paid to visitors who leave Singapore through Changi or Seletar airport with the goods within two months, and who bought from a retailer in the scheme with their passport (IRAS). Driving back across the Causeway does not qualify.
