Tesla Roadster Reveal Oct 15: Time, Place, What to Expect
Tesla's next-generation Roadster demo is now set for Thursday, October 15, after Tesla moved it from October 1 because of severe weather in central Texas. Tesla said the event "can only be held outdoors" and that more details would follow, Electrek reported. In the reports checked on October 6, Tesla had not announced a start time or said whether the event will be streamed.
What is confirmed, and what is not
- Date: Thursday, October 15. Tesla's post on X said "New date is October 15."
- Place: Waco, Texas, about 90 minutes north of Tesla's Austin headquarters, according to the invitations sent to reservation holders, Teslarati reported. Tesla did not name the venue. Electrek says the event is expected at SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, near Waco.
- Time: not announced for October 15. The original invitation for October 1 said 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
- Livestream: not announced.
- Who can attend: invited reservation holders. The invitation limited entry to guests aged 21 and over and could not be transferred.
Start time in your city if 8:30 pm Eastern holds
This is an assumption, not an announcement: if Tesla keeps the 8:30 p.m. Eastern time from the first invitation, that is 00:30 UTC on Friday, October 16.

Why it moved
Tesla pointed to the forecast and to the fact that the event has to be outdoors. Elon Musk then cited high winds, Teslarati reported. Electrek checked the forecast for McGregor, found the rain clearing within days, and questioned a two-week gap; Teslarati wrote that waiting for good conditions made sense, since wind could affect a high-speed demo.
What to expect: reports and past promises, not an announcement
- A hover demo. Electrek reported in August that Tesla plans to make the Roadster hover on a SpaceX-developed cold-gas thruster package, with nobody in the car and spectators kept several hundred yards back.
- Speed claims. Musk has said a Roadster with the thruster package could reach 60 mph in about 1.1 seconds, against 1.9 seconds quoted for the standard car. Teslarati says that version reportedly would not be street legal.
- Price. The $200,000 base price and $250,000 Founders Series price were set in 2017, when Tesla opened reservations of $50,000 and $250,000, Teslarati says.
- Production. Tesla's vice president of vehicle engineering, Lars Moravy, has said it will be built at Gigafactory Texas, and Musk has targeted 2027 or 2028.
Nine years of Roadster dates
- November 2017: Tesla showed the prototype at the end of its Semi event, promising 0 to 60 mph in under two seconds, a top speed above 250 mph, 620 miles of range from a 200 kWh battery and production in 2020, Teslarati recalls.
- Since then: the "flying" demo has been promised for the end of 2025, then April 1, 2026, late April, "a month or so", August, October 1 and now October 15, per Electrek.
