|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicles delivered | 486,532 | 480,126 | 461,974 |

The forecast is the consensus of 24 analysts that Tesla itself published on September 30. Sources: Tesla, Q3 figures, Tesla, Q2 figures and Not a Tesla App.
What analysts expect for the profit report
| Analysts’ estimate for Q3 | Tesla’s result for Q2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | about $27.6 billion | $28.24 billion |
| Earnings per share (GAAP) | $0.26 | $0.32 |
| Gross margin | 17.7% | 16.8% |
These are estimates, not Tesla’s own forecast, and they differ by source and by how profit is counted. The third-quarter figures are one firm’s average of analyst estimates on October 5 (Hudson Labs). The second-quarter results are from Drive Tesla.
What to look for
- Profit margins. In Q2 the gross margin was 16.8%, well below the 19.5% analysts expected, and the operating margin was 1.4%.
- Spending and cash. Tesla spent $5.79 billion on capital projects in Q2, and free cash flow was negative $1.09 billion.
- Earnings against forecasts. In Q2 revenue beat forecasts by about $650 million, but earnings per share missed: $0.32 against $0.36 expected, and the shares fell more than 2.5% after hours, Drive Tesla reported.
The results do not predict how the shares will move, and this page is not investment advice. Tesla’s new Roadster is due to be shown six days earlier: see our page on the Roadster reveal on October 15.
