World Students' Day 2026: October 15 and Dr. Kalam
World Students' Day falls on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Schools and colleges in India mark it on the birthday of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the scientist and 11th President of India, who was known for his talks with students.
- Date: Thursday, October 15, 2026
- Why that date: Dr. Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu
- Where it is marked: mainly in India
- Official theme for 2026: none has been published by any official body
Is it a United Nations day?
No. Many posts say the UN declared October 15 World Students' Day in 2010, but that is a myth. The UN Information Centre for India told reporters in 2019 that the UN had made no such announcement (The New Indian Express), and fact-checkers reached the same conclusion (Factly). On the UN calendar, October 15 is the International Day of Rural Women.
Do not confuse it with International Students' Day, which is on November 17 and is marked in many countries.
