Things to know on the day
- Local time is what counts. Each state's hours are in its own time zone, and several states, such as Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky and Texas, span two zones.
- Mail-voting states such as Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Hawaii have deadlines for ballots rather than polling-place hours. Check your state's rules for mailed ballots.
- Find your polling place and its exact hours on your state or county election office's website.
- Results start to come in after each state's polls close, so the evening runs from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern.
