The Social Reckoning: Release Date, Cast and True Story
The Social Reckoning opens in US and UK cinemas on October 9, 2026. It is Aaron Sorkin's follow-up to The Social Network, with a new cast, and it dramatizes the 2021 Facebook leak by the whistleblower Frances Haugen. The film had its world premiere in London on September 29, according to Wikipedia, and no streaming date has been announced.

- Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg

Strong replaces Jesse Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg in The Social Network and declined to return, Wikipedia says.
Is it a true story?
It is based on real events, dramatized. Haugen joined Facebook in 2019 as a product manager on its civic integrity team and left in May 2021. She gave tens of thousands of internal documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission and The Wall Street Journal, whose series The Facebook Files began in September 2021. She revealed her identity on 60 Minutes on October 3, 2021, and testified to a US Senate subcommittee on October 5, 2021, Wikipedia's article on Haugen says. The film draws on the events behind that investigation, The Upcoming reports, so the scenes and dialogue are Sorkin's retelling.
Early reactions
Early reaction posts after the London premiere were lukewarm, with almost all of them comparing the film to The Social Network, the film site World of Reel wrote on October 2. Critics were still seeing the film at that point, so these are first impressions, not reviews.
Where to watch
Only in cinemas for now. As of Epicstream's September 30 update, there was no streaming, rental or purchase date.
