iOS 27.1 Release Date: Why Most iPhones Will Skip It
iOS 27.1 arrives with the iPhone Duo on October 23, 2026, and it's made for that phone. If you have any other iPhone, you won't see iOS 27.1 at all. Your next big update is iOS 27.2, which is already in public beta.
When is iOS 27.1 coming out?
Apple says the iPhone Duo "will run iOS 27.1" when it goes on sale on October 23, in its note to developers and in the iPhone Duo announcement. Apple describes it as a version that "builds on the foundation of iOS 27" with features built for the foldable design.
Apple didn't release an iOS 27.1 beta for other iPhones. It went straight from iOS 27 to the iOS 27.2 beta on September 16, and 9to5Mac reports that iOS 27.2 is the next update for every iPhone except the Duo. The Duo is expected to join the rest of the lineup in a later version.
What's in iOS 27.1
Everything Apple has shown for iOS 27.1 is about the foldable screen:
- Two apps side by side on the inner display, a first for iPhone
- Controls, the Dock and the Dynamic Island moved to the side of the screen
- Two Home Screen pages at once when the phone is open, with a column of widgets on the left
- StandBy on either screen, even when the phone isn't charging

What other iPhones get next: iOS 27.2
The current version for other iPhones is iOS 27.0.1, which Apple released on September 28. It fixed a Face ID bug that could make the iPhone 18 Pro restart, MacRumors reported.
The next update, iOS 27.2, has been in public beta since September 22. It adds Siri AI in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, MacRumors reports, and brings Dual Capture to Group FaceTime calls, according to 9to5Mac.
The beta also includes the redesigned Health app Apple showed at its September event, with Insights and Longevity tabs and a "Health Age" feature based on Apple Watch data. Don't expect it in the final iOS 27.2, though. Apple says only that the app arrives later this year, starting in U.S. English, and MacRumors reports that Apple's developer notes say it won't be in the launch version of iOS 27.2.
When is iOS 27.2 coming out?
Apple hasn't given a date, but October is the reported expectation. 9to5Mac says iOS 27.2 "is set to be released officially in October", and MacRumors expects an October launch because iOS 27.2 carries the new Siri AI languages, which Apple has said are coming in October. Until Apple announces it, treat October as a well-founded expectation, not a confirmed date.
