Instagram Reorder Grid: How to Rearrange Posts (and Fixes)
To rearrange your Instagram grid, open your profile, press and hold any post, tap Reorder grid, then drag posts into the order you want. Instagram began rolling the feature out worldwide on June 8, 2026, and you can move posts around regardless of when you made them, Engadget reported. Pinned posts stay at the top. If you cannot see the option, your app may need an update.
How to rearrange your grid, step by step
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Press and hold any post in your grid.
- Tap Reorder grid. It appears in the menu next to "Pin to main grid" and "Archive", Engadget says.
- Drag posts to new positions in the window that opens. Any post you have pinned stays at the top and is blacked out in this window.
- Tap the back arrow at the top left when you are done. The changes then apply to your real profile, according to 9to5Mac.
The sources we checked describe the feature in the mobile app, and none mentions the website. Button names can change between app versions.
What to know before you move things
- You can move old and new posts. Until this feature, posts appeared in date order and pinning was the only way to keep older posts at the top, TechCrunch noted when Instagram announced the plan.
- Pinned posts do not move. Meta says pinned posts stay fixed at the top of the grid (ABC7 New York). Instagram Plus subscribers get extra pins, up to six according to Tom's Guide. See our guide to Instagram Plus.
- Tagged posts can be moved too. Tagged posts you add show up newest first by default, and you can rearrange them, Engadget notes. Here is how to add a tagged post to your grid.
- Carousels are separate. In March 2026, Instagram began letting people reorder the photos and videos inside a carousel after publishing, by long-pressing and dragging slides, Gulf News reported. That is a different setting from the grid.
What people use it for
In its announcement, Meta suggested using the feature for "highlighting a new era, resurfacing older content, refreshing your aesthetic or showcasing key projects/work", ABC7 reported. Meta also said you can group a series of posts, such as "Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3", so that followers can follow the story in order.
Reorder grid not showing? What to try
The rollout was gradual. Instagram's own Threads account said the feature was "available starting this week" in June, and 9to5Mac noted that not everyone would have it straight away. Instagram has not published a troubleshooting list for this feature, so the steps below are general tips, not advice from Instagram:
- Update the app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Check you are on your own profile. Press and hold a post in your main grid, not in the Tagged tab and not on someone else's profile.
- Read the whole menu. Reorder grid sits beside Pin to main grid and Archive.
- Close and reopen the app, or restart your phone, then try again.
- If an error appears, check your connection and try again in a few minutes.
- Still nothing? Use the Instagram Help Centre to report the problem or to check for news about the feature.
