STR 2027 Application: Who Qualifies and How to Apply
Applications for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) 2027 can be made on paper at Inland Revenue Board (LHDN, or HASiL) offices from Oct. 1, 2026 and online from Oct. 15, 2026, the official STR portal says. Online applications go through bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my.
Budget 2027, tabled on Oct. 9, raises the allocation for STR and SARA to RM16 billion from RM15 billion. All STR recipients are to get SARA of up to RM150 a month, or RM1,800 a year, and Malaysians aged 18 and above who do not receive STR get RM100 twice, the speech says (para. 26). The speech text does not list 2027 STR amounts by category, so the rules and STR amounts below are the 2026 ones LHDN has published. For the Phase 4 payment of STR 2026, see STR Phase 4: date, amount and how to check.

Who qualifies for STR?
These are the 2026 rules, from LHDN's official leaflet (in Malay). Everyone must be a Malaysian citizen who lives and works in Malaysia. LHDN's FAQ says a Malaysian who lives in Singapore does not qualify.
| Group | Who and the income limit |
|---|---|
| Household | Married, with or without children, or a single parent, widow, widower or divorcee with children. Household income up to RM5,000 a month. |
| Elderly without spouse | Aged 60 or older, single, widowed or divorced, with no children. Income up to RM5,000 a month. |
| Single | Aged 21 to 59, or 19 to 59 if disabled, single or a single parent with no children, and not a full-time student. Income up to RM2,500 a month. Paid through SARA only. |
- Spouse: a Malaysian citizen or permanent resident, or a non-citizen.
- Children: biological (including those born outside marriage) or adopted children registered with the National Registration Department (JPN), with a MyKad or MyKid, who have no income. They must be 18 or younger, or older and still studying full-time at a public or private university or college. The online form takes up to five children.
How much is STR? The 2026 amounts
LHDN's leaflet lists these yearly amounts for 2026. They are paid in phases, with STR in cash and SARA as credit on the MyKad for basic goods at registered shops. The STR portal had not published 2027 amounts on Oct. 9. For 2027 the Budget speech says SARA will be up to RM150 a month (RM1,800 a year) for all STR recipients, against the RM1,200 a year for households in the 2026 tables below.
Household income up to RM2,500 a month
| Children | STR a year | SARA a year |
|---|---|---|
| None | RM700 | RM1,200 |
| 1 to 2 | RM1,200 | RM1,200 |
| 3 to 4 | RM1,700 | RM1,200 |
| 5 or more | RM2,200 | RM1,200 |
Household income RM2,501 to RM5,000 a month
| Children | STR a year | SARA a year |
|---|---|---|
| None | RM200 | RM1,200 |
| 1 to 2 | RM450 | RM1,200 |
| 3 to 4 | RM700 | RM1,200 |
| 5 or more | RM950 | RM1,200 |
- Elderly without spouse (income up to RM5,000): RM600 STR and RM600 SARA a year.
- Singles (income up to RM2,500): RM600 SARA a year and no STR cash.
- Extra SARA for households and elderly in the eKasih poor and hardcore-poor lists: RM1,200 a year, or RM100 a month. For singles it is RM600 a year, or RM50 a month.
- New for 2027: Malaysians aged 18 and above who are not STR recipients get SARA MADANI of RM100, paid twice, before Aidilfitri and for the 70th National Day, the Budget speech says (para. 26).
Documents you need
- You: a copy of your marriage certificate (from a state Islamic religious department or JPN), or your spouse's death certificate, or a divorce certificate, or a court decree nisi or absolute. A disabled applicant aged 19 or 20 needs the disability (OKU) card from the Social Welfare Department.
- Your spouse: a copy of the MyKad, MyPR or MyKAS, or a passport, visa, UNHCR card, border pass, birth certificate or old identity card.
- Each child: a copy of the MyKad or MyKid and the birth certificate, or for an adopted child the adoption registration certificate from JPN.
- Lost your marriage certificate? LHDN's FAQ says a nikah card or a child's birth certificate can be used instead.
Online uploads must be PDF, JPG, JPEG or PNG files under 3 MB each, the official guide says.
How to apply online
- Go to bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my, the official portal, and click Permohonan Baharu (new application).
- Choose Ya, Teruskan to continue, or apply with MyDigital ID by scanning its QR code, which also registers your STR account.
- Enter your 12-digit MyKad number and press Semak (check). Your name, age and gender fill in from JPN records and cannot be changed.
- Fill in your phone numbers, job, household income band, marital status, address, bank account and email.
- If you are married, add your spouse's details. Then add your children, if any.
- Upload the supporting documents, then add the details of an heir (waris).
- Type the captcha, tick the declaration and press Hantar (send).
The steps come from the 2026 guide, so the 2027 screens may look a little different. An email address is needed to reset your account and to receive STR notices. If you have no bank account, choose the option for no bank details and collect payments at a Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) counter with your MyKad, LHDN's FAQ says.
How to apply on paper
- Take form BK-01 from the portal and print it, or get it free at a HASiL office, a HASiL satellite office or the HASiL Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
- Hand in the completed form with copies of your documents and the supporting-documents form (BK-04) at one of those counters, and keep the receipt slip.
- LHDN does not accept applications by email or fax.
Do you need to update your application?
These are the 2026 rules from LHDN's FAQ. Check the portal for the 2027 version.
- New application: if you had no record in last year's STR system and fit the income limits.
- Update: if anything changed, such as marital status, children, income or bank account.
- Three years without an update: an application not updated during STR 2023, 2024 and 2025 had to be updated for STR 2026. The elderly and the interior categories in Sabah and Sarawak were exempt.
- Nothing changed: no update is needed.
Why STR applications are rejected
LHDN's FAQ gives these reasons, based on government records:
- Income above the limit: over RM5,000 for a household or over RM2,500 for a single applicant.
- A property transaction of RM300,000 or more by the applicant or spouse.
- Vehicles above LHDN's limit for low-income households, for example more than five cars, or a car over 2,000 cc that is less than 10 years old.
- Three or more homes on electricity-bill records.
- Records of eight or more entries and exits in one month, which suggest living, working or studying abroad.
- For singles: aged 20 or younger (18 or younger if disabled), or a full-time student.
A rejected applicant can appeal or ask for a review online. For an income rejection, the FAQ says no documents are needed because the check is done directly with agency records. Appeals for STR 2026 closed on Sept. 30, and the portal has not said when STR 2027 appeals open.
