Singapore Bus and MRT Fares From Dec. 26: Full New Table
Adult card fares on Singapore's buses and MRT/LRT rise by 12 cents for journeys up to 3.2 km and 13 cents for longer ones from Saturday, Dec. 26, 2026, so the shortest adult card ride goes from S$1.28 to S$1.40. Student, senior and disabled-commuter card fares rise 5 cents and adult cash fares 20 cents. Monthly passes and Workfare Transport Concession Scheme (WTCS) card fares do not change, the Public Transport Council (PTC) said on Tuesday, Sept. 29 (PTC).
PTC granted an overall increase of 7.0%, less than half of the 14.7% it could have allowed.

Adult card fares by distance: bus and MRT/LRT
The same distance-based card fare applies on basic bus services and on MRT/LRT trains. Fares are per ride, and both columns come from PTC's Annex B, which marks the new fares “w.e.f. 26 December 2026” (PTC annex, PDF). The annex gives cents, and the tables show dollars.

- Early train rides stay cheaper: MRT/LRT journeys that start before 7.45 am on weekdays, excluding public holidays, are 50 cents cheaper than the fares above, both before and after the increase. PTC's table gives S$0.90 for up to 3.2 km and S$1.01 for 3.3 to 4.2 km, for example.
- Express buses: express card fares are S$1 higher than the basic fare at every distance, so the new adult card fare for up to 3.2 km is S$2.40 and the cash fare S$3.50.
- Feeder buses: the adult card fare is a flat S$1.40 from Dec. 26, up from S$1.28, and the cash fare S$2.30, up from S$2.10.
Adult cash fares on buses
Cash fares rise by 20 cents at every distance. PTC says less than 1% of all public transport journeys are paid in cash.
| Distance | Until Dec. 25 (S$) | From Dec. 26 (S$) |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3.2 km | 2.10 | 2.30 |
| 3.3 to 6.2 km | 2.30 | 2.50 |
| 6.3 to 9.2 km | 2.50 | 2.70 |
| 9.3 to 11.2 km | 2.70 | 2.90 |
| 11.3 to 15.2 km | 2.90 | 3.10 |

| 19.3 to 23.2 km | 3.10 | 3.30 |
| 23.3 km and over | 3.20 | 3.40 |
Student, senior and disabled-commuter fares
Card fares for students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities rise by 5 cents on every journey. Each cell shows the fare until Dec. 25 and the fare from Dec. 26. These groups have six distance bands, and the last covers every journey over 7.2 km.
| Distance | Student card (S$) | Senior or disabled card (S$) |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3.2 km | 0.52 to 0.57 | 0.69 to 0.74 |
| 3.3 km to 4.2 km | 0.60 to 0.65 | 0.79 to 0.84 |
| 4.3 km to 5.2 km | 0.66 to 0.71 | 0.87 to 0.92 |
| 5.3 km to 6.2 km | 0.71 to 0.76 | 0.94 to 0.99 |
| 6.3 km to 7.2 km | 0.74 to 0.79 | 1.00 to 1.05 |
| Over 7.2 km | 0.78 to 0.83 | 1.07 to 1.12 |
Cash fares for these groups rise by 10 cents: students pay S$1.10 up to 6.2 km and S$1.30 beyond, and seniors and disabled commuters S$1.50 and S$1.80. WTCS cardholders keep their current card fares, from S$0.78 for up to 3.2 km on a bus, while their cash fares rise 20 cents like adult cash fares.
Monthly passes: no change
PTC kept the price of every monthly pass unchanged, for around 126,000 pass users. The prices below are from PTC's fares page.
| Monthly pass (unlimited basic bus and train rides) | Price, unchanged (S$) |
|---|---|
| Adult | 122.00 |
| Senior citizen | 55.00 |
| Person with disabilities | 55.00 |
| Workfare Transport Concession Scheme cardholder | 92.00 |
| Primary school student | 39.00 |
| Secondary school student | 49.00 |
| Polytechnic student | 49.00 |
| University student or full-time national serviceman | 81.00 |
PTC says around 110,000 more card commuters could save by switching to a hybrid monthly pass, by around S$26 a month on average, because card fares rise while pass prices do not.
What the rise means for a regular commuter
- A 5 km trip (4.3 to 5.2 km): S$1.49 until Dec. 25, S$1.62 from Dec. 26. Two such trips a day over 22 working days cost S$5.72 more a month.
- An 8 km trip (7.3 to 8.2 km): S$1.75 until Dec. 25, S$1.88 from Dec. 26.
- A monthly pass is a better deal only if you travel a lot: the adult pass is S$122.00 a month, about 75 rides at S$1.62.
These examples are our own arithmetic from PTC's table.
Why fares are rising, and help for lower-income households
PTC said the fare formula produced 5.3% for 2026, higher than last year because of a substantial rise in energy prices between July 2025 and June 2026, and that 9.4% was carried over from earlier years, for a maximum of 14.7%. It granted 7.0% and deferred the other 7.7% to a later review. The government will pay close to S$200 million in extra subsidies in 2027 to cover the deferred part, and the roughly 190,000 WTCS cardholders are shielded from the card fare increase (PTC).
Lower-income households get more help too: the Public Transport Voucher goes up from S$60 to S$80 per household, and the income limit rises from S$1,800 to S$2,100 per person (Ministry of Transport). Applications for the current S$60 round close on Saturday, Oct. 31. See our page on the Public Transport Voucher deadline and how to apply.
Fares are from PTC's Fare Review Exercise 2026 release and its Annex B, both dated Sept. 29, 2026 and read on Oct. 20, 2026, with monthly pass prices from PTC's fares page. The commuter examples are calculated from the same table. Check PTC for any later change.
