The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has moved its November 2026 grant payments forward because the local government elections fall on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Older persons will be paid on Friday, Oct. 30, disability grants on Monday, Nov. 2 and children's grants on Tuesday, Nov. 3, the agency said in a statement on Oct. 14 (IOL, TimesLIVE). National Treasury approved the revised schedule (TimesLIVE).

The new dates replace the schedule SASSA announced in March for the 2026/27 financial year, which had older persons on Nov. 3, disability on Nov. 4 and children's grants on Nov. 5, with Nov. 6 as a fourth day for grants under review (TimesLIVE). SASSA said on Sept. 30 that the disability date clashed with the election and that it would consult stakeholders before announcing new arrangements. “Do not panic though, all eligible beneficiaries will receive their grants,” it said (The Witness).

Children's grantsThu. Nov. 5Tue. Nov. 3

The Nov. 5 day for beneficiaries whose grants are under review comes from MDNtv's report of SASSA's statement. IOL and TimesLIVE did not mention it. SASSA administers more than 19 million grant payments, including the older persons, disability, war veterans, care dependency, foster child, child support and grant-in-aid grants (The Witness), and its statement names three payment groups: older persons, disability and children's grants.

Why were the dates moved?

Election day is a public holiday (EWN), and the disability grant had been due on it. SASSA said the adjustment is “intended to support the smooth administration of social grant payments during the period surrounding the Local Government Elections” (IOL). See our guide to election day: hours, ID and where to vote.

For comparison, October's payments were older persons on Friday, Oct. 2, disability on Monday, Oct. 5 and children's grants on Tuesday, Oct. 6 (EWN).
