The 5th Asian Para Games open on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, in Nagoya, Japan. The opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m. Japan time (09:00 UTC) at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, the official ticketing guide says. Some competition starts earlier, on Friday, Oct. 16, and the Games close on Saturday, Oct. 24, with another 6 p.m. ceremony. There are 492 medal events in 18 sports, and the first medals are decided on Monday, Oct. 19 (official daily schedule).

Both ceremonies start at 6 p.m. in Nagoya. The ticketing guide says fans should be inside the stadium by 4 p.m., when a warm-up show begins, and entry may be restricted after that. Here is what 6 p.m. in Nagoya is elsewhere, with a 9 a.m. start for comparison, when many sessions begin.

The medals

Each medal is 80 mm across and 5 mm thick, the organisers say. Gold weighs about 265 g (pure silver plated with at least 1 g of gold), silver about 264 g and bronze about 222 g. The reverse carries "Aichi-Nagoya 2026" in Braille, and notches on the edge let athletes tell them apart by touch: one for gold, two for silver, three for bronze. Some of the metal was recovered from donated small electronics.

About the Asian Para Games

The Asian Para Games are run by the Asian Paralympic Committee, a regional body of the International Paralympic Committee, normally every four years after the Asian Games. Japan is hosting the Games for the first time (ticketing guide). The previous edition was in Hangzhou, China, delayed from 2022 to October 2023 by the pandemic, and Doha is listed for 2030, according to Wikipedia. The Games follow the Asian Games, which ran in the same region from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4.

Schedules, times and prices are as published by the organisers up to Oct. 6, 2026 and can change. Check the official schedule before you plan.
